Fru-Chocs!

Though the Australians are a fit people in general, they do like their sweets. Here is a South Aussie specialty--FruChocs! They are delicious. They are basically balls of dried apricot and peach mashed up and coated with milk chocolate. This is an empty bag of Giant FruChocs...and no, I did not eat the whole bag myself! Maybe something to bring bag for me mom.

In Christ,

Chris

  1. Is GIANT a brand, a description, or simply marketing? Do stores sell medium FruChocs? Is this a treat sold only by one company, or are there several store brand equivalents? Are there other chocolate-covered fruits on the market, or is this a specialty niche?

  2. I find it very humorous that you would ask so many questions about the candy, Dr. Stewart. I wish I could walk down some of the streets with you. I have been asking tons of questions here just as you taught me in Spain. I am sure we would have a blast.

In response: FruChocs is the brand. The original comes in a much smaller variety (about the size of a malted milk ball). After eating a whole package of them, we purchased the Giant variety. So "giant" is a description of their size in comparison to the original. To my knowledge, there are no "medium" FruChocs. There are "Giant FruChocs" and normal "FruChocs." The company that makes FruChocs is Menz. Though other companies have made knock-off versions (as with any popular commodity) the consensus seems to be that Menz's product is the original and best. But, yes, there are bargain equivalents. There are few normal chocolate covered fruits on the market (chocolate covered cherries, for example), but these are no where near as popular as the Apricot concoction in the Menz produce. In that sense, they have a niche. There are not others competing with a similar chocolate-covered products. Also, the Menz factory sells many more things than FruChocs. They have chocolate covered gummy frogs, chocolate covered biscuit, etc. They just like covering things with chocolate (though not as good as some of the Spanish chocolate we had).
